Grinnell volleyball team wraps up MSOE Invite with perfect 3-0 mark

Pioneers sweep Knox on Saturday

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Grinnell College's volleyball team was firing on all cylinders Saturday while wrapping up the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) Raider Invite with a three-set sweep of Knox College.
 
Thirteen players contributed to the victory, which capped a 3-0 weekend for the Pioneers. Grinnell, which won by scores of 25-19, 25-16 and 25-14, hit a sizzling .284 for the match with 37 kills on 88 swings. The Pioneers held Knox to a .047 average.
 
Millie Leonard '27 and Leticia Machado '29 were amazing at the net with 11 and 10 kills, respectively. Leonard hit .333 and Machado came in at .389.
 
Paige Lundgren '30 tallied 15 assists and served three aces, while Molly Kuhn '29 had four aces and Machado a pair. Leonard led the team in digs with eight as 11 players in all had at least one dig.
 
Grinnell shot out to a 12-3 lead in the opening set and never looked back, with Kuhn providing a big service run. Kuhn used another big run in the second set to turn an 8-7 deficit into a 13-8 cushion. She had two aces and Kinsey Carrigan '30, Leonard and Mia Meert '30 all had kills during the spurt. The third set was more of the same, as Grinnell grabbed a 5-1 lead right off the bat on its way to victory.
 
The 3-4 Pioneers are in Storm Lake Tuesday to face Buena Vista University.
