Grinnell football team drops decision at Lake Forest

LAKE FOREST, Ill. - Grinnell College's football team wrapped up a tough two-game road stand Saturday afternoon with a 63-0 setback to Lake Forest College in the Midwest Conference opener for each team.

The Foresters, who are receiving votes for the national rankings, got out to a 21-0 lead by the end of the first period and never looked back.

Turnovers hurt Grinnell (1-2, 0-1 MWC) as the Pioneers gave the ball away four times, three times via fumble and once on an interception.

Andre Lopez '30 led the Pioneers' rushing attack with 43 yards and Caden Revelle '30 was the top receiver with a catch for seven yards.

Defensively, Luke Konczal '29 led Grinnell with six tackles, while CJ Readon '27 added five and Nolan Novak '29 and Peyton Williams '27 got four each. Williams also had a pickoff and Konczal posted two sacks.

After being forced to punt on its first three possessions, Grinnell got the ball back on Williams' interception. The Pioneers put together a productive drive that saw them go from their own 20-yard line to the Foresters' 31 with a drive that was highlighted by an 11-yard run by Will Weber '29 and 8-yard rush from David Eisenberg '29. However, an interception by Lake Forest (3-0, 1-0 MWC) ended the drive.

Grinnell returns to Rosenbloom Field next Saturday to host Beloit College. Kickoff is at 1 p.m.
