Pioneer women's soccer team owns the stat sheet, but loses 2-0 at Monmouth

MONMOUTH, Ill. - Sometimes the statistics don't tell the story.

That's what Grinnell College's women's soccer team ran into Saturday afternoon, as the Pioneers outshot Monmouth College 26-3 yet lost a 2-0 decision in the Midwest Conference opener for each team.

The shot total for Grinnell (2-4-1, 0-1 MWC) was the highest for the program since 2023. The Pioneers won the shots on goal battle 12-2 and had 12 corners compared to two for Monmouth (3-1, 1-0 MWC).

The Fighting Scots scored in the 10th minute and clung to a 1-0 halftime lead before adding an insurance goal in the 78th minute.

Teya Lochridge '29 had nine shots for Grinnell, Rylee Howard '30 came up with six and Maya Mozena '28 had five. Penny Cummings '30 contributed three shots, Lucy Collier '30 added two and Campbell Swaim '28 had one.

Peyton Dixon '27 was in goal for Grinnell, which is on the road again Wednesday for a MWC test at Knox College.
