Grinnell rally falls short in 2-1 women's soccer loss at Knox

GALESBURG, Ill. - The Grinnell College women's soccer team found itself in the situation of too little, too late during a 2-1 Midwest Conference setback at Knox College Wednesday night.

Knox built a 2-0 lead through 24 minutes and held that cushion into halftime and much of the second half. The Pioneers broke into the scoring column with nine minutes left, but couldn't score the equalizer as the Prairie Fire eked out the win.

Addison Thornberg '29 scored Grinnell's goal, her first of the season and second in her career. Emily Roesler '28, who had the assist, launched a high pass from the right side of the box in front of the net. Thornberg timed it perfectly, jumping up and heading it into the right part of the goal.

Both teams had eight shots, with Thornberg and Campbell Swaim '28 taking two each for Grinnell and Lucy Collier '30, Teya Lochridge '29, Penny Cummings '30 and Hollye Anne Brinkley '29 adding one each.

Grinnell keeper Grayson Allison '28 had two saves.

Grinnell, 2-5-1 overall and 0-2 in the MWC, will host Ripon College at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Springer Field. Knox improved to 4-4 overall and 2-0 in the league.
