Pioneer women's tennis team stays perfect in 2026-27

Grinnell knocks off Ripon, Luther

GRINNELL, Iowa - The Grinnell College women's tennis team kept its perfect start intact Saturday, blanking Ripon College 7-0 and then toppling Luther College 6-1 in Midwest Conference play.

The Pioneers, who have won 59 matches in a row against MWC foes dating back to the 2018-19 season, dominated Ripon from the start by sweeping doubles with the teams of Margot Groundwater '30-Sofia Bolanos '28 (6-0), Sanne Ijpma '30-Addie Persian '27 (6-1) and Laurel Buttrick '30-Mailani Ramos-Platt '30 (6-0).

Grinnell finished off the shutout by sweeping singles with Groundwater (6-1, 6-2), Persian (6-4, 7-6), Kayla Surpless '28 (6-1, 6-0), Ijpma (6-1, 6-4), Ramos-Platt (6-3, 6-0) and Rachel George '30 (6-3, 6-0).

Grinnell, 5-0 overall and 4-0 in the MWC, had to rally to defeat Luther after losing the doubles point. The Pioneers got their lone doubles victory from Eliana Martin '29 and Ijpma, who won 7-5 at No. 3.

Pari Chavan '27 (6-2, 6-1), Logan Tom '28 (6-1, 6-1), Martin (6-4, 6-3), Laurel Buttrick '30 (6-0, 6-4), Luiza Kohn '29 (6-0, 6-0) and Groundwater (7-5, 4-6, 10-2).

The Pioneers travel to Mount Vernon Sunday to play rival Cornell College.
