Pioneer women's soccer team falls in defensive-minded battle against Luther

GRINNELL, Iowa - In a defensive-minded battle where shots were hard to come by, Luther College eked out a 1-0 victory over Grinnell College in women's soccer action Tuesday afternoon at Springer Field.

Playing under cloudy skies where rainstorms threatened but never materialized, the Norse scored in the 15th minute and held on from there to earn the Midwest Conference victory.

Despite being shut out, Grinnell never backed off its attack and nearly tied the contest in the waning minutes when a free kick just missed to the right.

Grinnell won the shots battle 4-3, with Teya Lochridge '29 getting three of those and Nora Lesmeister '30 getting one.

Grayson Allison '28 worked a solid contest at keeper for Grinnell and posted one save.

The Pioneers are 1-3 in the MWC and 3-6-1 overall, while Luther improved to 2-0 in the league and 4-2-2 overall.

Grinnell steps out of league play Saturday when Central College visits for a 3:30 p.m. date. The contest will also serve as Senior Day.
