GC men's golf team enjoys successful season opener at Aurora

Results

AURORA, Ill. - Roger Smith '28 tied for 16th place in a large field of 107 golfers while lifting the Grinnell College men's golf team to success at the season-opening Aurora Spartan Double Gun event Tuesday.


Smith posted consecutive rounds of 3-over-par 75 at Aurora Country Club for a 150. He had six birdies on the day.

Spencer Moody '29 was next in line for the Pioneers, tying for 22nd with rounds of 78 and 74 for a 152. He had four birdies. Josh Udelson '29 tied for 62nd with an 83-77-160, and Max Shin '29 had a 79-83-162. Shin had five birdies and Udelson tallied two.

Everett Williams '29 shot 79 and 84 for a 163 and Nathan Yan '30 added an 82 and 83 for 165. Each golfer posted three birdies.

As a team, Grinnell had rounds of 311 and 309 for a 620 and eighth-place finish in the 19-team field. The host school was the champ at 575 and had the individual winner in Caleb Negley, who shot 134.

Grinnell plays at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Invite next weekend.
