Smith's back-to-back eagles propel Pioneer men's golf team at Twin Cities Classic

Results through Day 2

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. - An eagle is a difficult feat in goal … back-to-back eagles almost never happen.

But Roger Smith '28 of Grinnell College defied those odds Sunday, posting eagles on consecutive holes while leading the Pioneer men's golf team at the Twin Cities Classic at Minnesota Valley Country Club.

Besides three birdies on the day, Smith posted eagles on the par-5, 471-yard 16th hole and par-4, 361-yard 17th hole. His total for the day was even-par 72.

The Pioneers had three golfers in the 70s, with Spencer Moody '29 shooting 75 and Max Shin '29 adding a 79. Moody had two birdies and Shin tallied one. Everett Williams '29 and Josh Udelson '29 followed with an 81 and 82, respectively, while Nathan Yan '30 added an 88. Both Williams and Udelson had two birdies on the day.

In the individual team standings, Moody is tied for eighth in the 91-golfer field with a 145. Shin and Smith are tied for 41st at 154, Williams is at 164 and Yan has a 165. Udelson has a 168 after two days.

Grinnell shot 307 on Sunday and has a two-day score of 617, good for 11th of 15 teams. Saint John's (Minn.) is the team leader at 572 and Carson Hannestad of Bethel (Minn.) holds down the individual lead with a 138.

The meet concludes Monday.
