In his eighth year as a volunteer assistant coach, Nathan Smith continues to work with Pioneer catchers.
Over his career, Smith has worked with a variety of sports. He began his career as an assistant basketball coach at Maranatha Baptist Bible College in 2006–07. He spent the next two years at Silver State Christian School, where he was an assistant football coach and assistant women’s basketball coach in 2007–08. He became head baseball, football, and basketball coach through the 2008–09 seasons.
Smith returned to his hometown of Grinnell in the summer of 2010 and began helping the Grinnell College football and baseball teams.
At Grinnell High School, Smith he was a catcher and was selected team MVP and was honorable mention all-state his junior and senior seasons.
Coach Smith is a lead worker for Grinnell College facilities management on Main Campus. He lives in Grinnell with his wife Karie and his six daughters — Taylar, Aubree, Kylie, Makenna, Shiloh, and Della.
