Josh Villarreal, who has gained vast experience in coaching stops in recent years, has joined the Grinnell College football program as assistant coach.
 
Villarreal has served as an assistant coach at Westminster College in Fulton, Mo, since 2017. Working with the offensive line, tight ends and halfbacks, Villarreal also served as recruiting, video and social media coordinator/graphic designer. He assisted in the implementation of the strength and conditioning program, served as offensive practice and game planner and was coordinator of opposing scout teams.
 
Villarreal served as an assistant coach at Peru State in Nebraska in 2016-17, coaching the tight ends, halfbacks and serving as field goal/point after touchdown coordinator. In addition, he assisted in game planning, film breakdown, scouting and implementation of the strength and conditioning program.
 
He was a graduate assistant at Howard Payne University in Brownwood, Texas, in 2015-16, where he was running backs and assistant offensive line coach. Prior to that, he served as a volunteer assistant coach at Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kan.
 
Villarreal graduated cum laude from Bethany in 2014 with a degree in health and wellness. As a football player, he was a two-time Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference Scholar-Athlete and played every position across the line during his career.
