Son of James and Brenda … has one sibling.
 
High School:
Graduated from Lanesboro High School, where he participated in football, basketball, wrestling and track and field … was Minnesota Section 1 football All-Conference three times, made the Minnesota 9-Man All-State Team, was team MVP, All-Conference in the discus twice and on the school-record 4x100-meter relay team … led team in tackles three times and rushed for 1,100 yards as a senior and 800 as a junior … aside from athletics, was Salutatorian, made Dean’s List every semester and was Honor Chord award winner.
