Men's Swimming and Diving Ted Schultz

School record by Brus sparks Pioneers to victory

GRINNELL, Iowa - Sparked by another school record by Michael Brus '14, the Grinnell College men's swimming and diving team defeated Luther College 190-98 Saturday afternoon at Russell K. Osgood Pool.

Brus won the 1000-yard freestyle in 9:53.65, breaking his previous school mark of 9:57.51.

Other individual champs for Grinnell were Brus in the 200 freestyle (1:49.25) and 100 freestyle (48.58), Ben Weideman '15 in the 100 backstroke (54.31) and 200 backstroke (2:01.30), Beck Ringdahl-Mayland '13 in the 100 breaststroke (1:01.64), Gus Fulgoni '15 in the 50 freestyle (22.50), Daniel Goldstein '16 in three-meter diving (232.50) and one-meter diving (256.80), Dylan Gray '14 in 200 breastroke (2:16.04), Timothy Sherwood '16 in 500 freestyle (5:07.57), Emanuel Spooner '13 in 100 butterfly (55.17) and Chris Kaiser-Nyman '13 in 200 IM (2:04.74).

Grinnell also won the 200 medley relay (Weideman, Ringdahl-Mayland, Austin Cote '15 and Fulgoni) in 1:38.42.

Individual runners-up for Grinnell were Sherwood in the 1000 freestyle (10:51.67), Fulgoni in the 50 freestyle (22.50), Milton Garcia '14 in three-meter diving (131.25) and one-meter diving (107.70), Kevin Bennett in 500 freestyle (5:12.99), Kaiser-Nyman in 100 butterfly (55.86) and Ringdahl-Mayland in 200 IM (2:07.64).

Grinnell was also second in the 200 freestyle relay with Fulgoni, Chris Woodington '15, Bennett and Brus (1:30.21).

Placing third individually for Grinnell were Forrest Knapp '15 in the 1000 freestyle (10:58.09), Sam Ross '16 in the 100 backstroke (58.75), Gray in the 100 breaststroke (1:02.15), Spooner in the 200 butterfly (2:09.74) and 200 IM (2:08.46) and Cote in the 50 freestyle (23.02) and 100 freestyle (51.68).

Grinnell also placed third in the 200 medley relay (James Kent '14, Gray, Spooner and Alex Lundy '16) in 1:42.14.

The Pioneers will compete at Loras College in Dubuque this coming Saturday.
