Grinnell netters fall to MWC preseason favorite

Box Score MOUNT VERNON, Iowa – Preseason Midwest Conference favorite Cornell College swept the Grinnell College volleyball team Tuesday night.

Set scores in favor of the Rams, who improved to 2-0 in the league and 9-10 in all matches, were 25-12, 25-11 and 25-17. The Pioneers fell to 1-2 in the MWC and 3-17 in all matches.

Bethine Moore '13 had team-highs of 14 assists and seven digs for Grinnell. Claire Weidman '15 and Michelle Briggs '13 had five kills each, while Cheyenne Hickox '15 and Moore had four apiece.

Emma Knatterud-Johnson '15 and Sydney McClendon '16 added four digs apiece and Hickox had two blocks.

Grinnell hit just .099 for the match, while the Rams had an attack percentage of .432.

The Pioneers play two more MWC road matches this weekend, taking on Lake Forest College at 7 p.m. Friday and Beloit College at 1 p.m. Saturday.
