Box Score GRINNELL, Iowa – Grinnell College's men's soccer team knew Saturday's home contest with Lawrence University would be key as both teams are battling for a spot in postseason play.
The Pioneers delivered big-time at Springer Field, emerging with a 1-0 victory in a physical Midwest Conference battle.
Grinnell is now 4-3 in the MWC and 7-6-1 overall, while Lawrence fell to 3-4-1 in league play and 6-8-1 in all games.

Isaiah Tyree '15 recorded his third shutout of the season for the Pioneers, who outshot the Vikings by a 15-10 margin. The physical nature of the contest was indicated by the issuing of five yellow cards, with three of those on Lawrence.
After a scoreless first half, Grinnell got the only goal it needed in the 62nd minute when
Victor Ghazal '16 recorded his third goal of the season on an assist by
Joseph Brown '15.
On the play, Lawrence possessed the ball in Grinnell territory before
Reed Caron '13 took it away and kicked it downfield to Brown. Brown touched the ball to Ghazal streaking down the middle, and Ghazal put it away in the bottom right corner of the net.
The one-goal margin would hold up the rest of the way as the Pioneers walked off the field with the win.

Pun Winichakul '13 had four shots each for the Pioneers,
Benjamin Warner '15 added three, Ghazal took two and
Lukas Eng '15 and
Rockne Decoster '15 contributed one apiece.
The Pioneers have another big home test Sunday when St. Norbert College visits Springer Field. Kickoff is at 1:30 p.m.
The Pioneers concluded the scoring in the 87th minute when Weinstein scored her first goal of the season on Shanahan's second assist of the contest. Shanahan worked the ball toward the box on the left side and delivered a perfect pass to Weinstein. Weinstein got the ball in the box, worked past her defender and beat the keeper with a shot, sending the Pioneers into celebration.
With the setback, Lawrence dipped to 2-5 in the MWC and 3-11 in all contests.
Grinnell returns to Springer Field Sunday for a big game against St. Norbert College. The contest begins at 11 a.m.
