Grinnell netters continue MWC road winning streak

Box Score WAUKESHA, Wis. – When it comes to Midwest Conference play, the Grinnell College volleyball team has turned into a road warrior.

The Pioneers won their third consecutive league road match Saturday afternoon when they topped Carroll University in a thrilling four-set match. Game scores, in favor of the visitors, were 25-23, 26-24, 21-25 and 26-24.

With the win, Grinnell evened its MWC record at 4-4 while moving to 6-20 overall. Carroll is also 4-4 in the league and 12-14 in all matches.

Claire Weidman '15 had 14 kills for the winners, while Shelby Carroll '13 had 10. Natalie Duncombe '15 had a dominating .417 attack percentage.

Bethine Moore '13 distributed 34 assists, Lindsay Fujimoto '15 had 23 digs and Weidman added 14 digs. Cheyenne Hickox '15 led the team with five total blocks, Michelle Briggs '13 had four and Duncombe and Carroll added three apiece.

Grinnell concludes the regular season next weekend with two home matches, hosting St. Norbert College at 7 p.m. Friday in Darby Gymnasium and then taking on Lawrence University at 1 p.m. Saturday.
