Box Score GRINNELL, Iowa – The Grinnell College men's basketball team sailed to a 134-97 victory over Midwest Conference foe Ripon College Saturday afternoon at Darby Gymnasium.
The Pioneers, who are now 2-0 in the league and 5-1 in all games, got a game-high 39 points from
Jack Taylor '15 with the aid of 9-of-15 shooting from 3-point land. Taylor also had a game-high five assists.
Aaron Levin '14 was 4-of-6 from long range and finished with 17 points and six rebounds, while
Griffin Lentsch '13 scored 15 points,
Patrick Maher '14 added 14 and
Luke Yeager '15 poured in 11.
Cody Olson '14 and
Joe Rogers '13 had six boards each, while Levin and
Jack Adams '13 tallied three steals apiece.
Taylor Koth had 31 points and a game-high 16 rebounds for the Red Hawks, who fell to 1-1 in the MWC and 2-3 overall.
Grinnell led just 7-6 before erupting with an 18-4 run to take command.
Garrett Nitz '13, Maher and Taylor each had layups to make it a 13-6 Grinnell lead.
After Ripon scored, Taylor sank a layup and pair of free throws and Lentsch drained a 3-pointer for a 20-8 edge.
Ripon then got a basket before Taylor hit a 3-pointer and
Brian McManamy '13 made a layup for a 25-10 lead with 12:23 left in the half.
The Pioneers pushed their lead as large as 35 points before settling for a 72-42 halftime cushion.
It was never a game after that as the hosts won with ease.
Grinnell is on the road Tuesday for a 7 p.m. meeting with Monmouth College.
