Grinnell baseball team falls to Augustana

Box Score ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Augustana College posted an 11-4 non-conference baseball win over Grinnell College Wednesday night.

Mike Nodzenski '12 led the Pioneers with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate, including a pair of doubles.

The winners, who improved to 22-11, scored three runs in the third inning before the Pioneers scored one in the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Matt Skelly '12 that plated Michael Goldfien '12.

Augustana then scored twice in the bottom of the fourth and again in the fifth for a 6-1 lead. Grinnell closed the gap to 6-4 in the top of the seventh with a three-run outburst. Jackson Markey '14 led off with an infield single. After two more outs, Kainoa Inafuku '14 and Goldfien walked to load the bases.

Nodzenski followed with a walk to plate a run, Skelly was hit by a pitch to score another and Ronnie Gray '12 added an RBI single.

Augustana scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh and three more in the eighth to secure the win.

Max Jacobson '14 suffered the pitching loss for the Pioneers, who fell to 11-14 on the season. Grinnell entertains Monmouth College on Saturday in a doubleheader. Action begins at 1 p.m.
