William Smith defeats Grinnell women's tennis team 6-3

Box Score

ORLANDO, Fla. – Laura Krull '13 was a double winner for the Grinnell College women's tennis team in a 6-3 setback to William Smith College on Monday.

Krull won 7-5, 7-6 at No. 1 singles and teamed with Catherine Fitch '13 to post an 8-3 decision at No. 2 doubles. Also winning for Grinnell was Shirlene Luk '15, who posted a 6-3, 6-4 decision at No. 2 singles.

Grinnell is now 10-4 while William Smith, ranked 18th in the NCAA Division III Northeast Region, is 3-0.

“Since our women were just getting back on the court as of Saturday, I thought we hit the ball pretty well today,” said Grinnell coach Andy Hamilton. “I think getting outside and having to play the wind and sun will become easier for us as we move through the week. I think throughout the match Laura showed her strength as a player and I hope she continues that the entire week. And Shirlene is becoming more and more of a top of the lineup player.”

The Pioneers were slated to play Oglethorpe University Saturday night, and have the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse on the slate Tuesday.
