School record sparks Grinnell men's swimming and diving team

GRINNELL, Iowa – Less than a week after breaking the school record in the 1650-yard freestyle, Michael Brus' 14 of Grinnell College has shattered another Pioneer mark.

Brus won the 1000 freestyle in 9:47.68 in a dual meet with Simpson College and the University of Nebraska Swim Club Friday night at Russell K. Osgood Pool. That broke his school and pool record of 9:53.65 set last season.

Other individual wins for Grinnell came from Kevin Bennett '16 in the 200 freestyle (1:49.19), James Kent '14 in the 200 individual medley (2:07.16) and 100 backstroke (57.24), Daniel Goldstein '16 in three-meter and one-meter diving (314.45 and 277.50), Ian Dixon-Anderson '17 in the 100 butterfly (54.57), Kyren DiMarzio '17 in the 100 freestyle (50.02), Tim Sherwood '16 in the 500 freestyle (5:02.93) and Dylan Gray '14 in the 100 breaststroke (1:02.51).

Grinnell also won the 200 medley relay with Ben Weideman '15, Will Elsas '14, Austin Cote '15 and Tristan Knoth '17 (1:40.24) and 200 freestyle relay with Joseph Lytle '14, Knoth, Collin Kramer '15 and Elsas (1:33.13).

Individual runners-up for Grinnell were Dixon-Anderson in the 1000 freestyle (9:51.91), Gray in the 200 freestyle (1:55.35), Lytle in the 50 freestyle (22.52) and 100 butterfly (54.66), Zane McHarris '17 in three-meter diving (178.65) and one-meter diving (183.50), Bennett in the 100 freestyle (50.11), Cote in the 100 backstroke (1:02.63) and Thomas Robinson '16 in the 500 freestyle (5:06.55)

Grinnell beat the UNL Swim Club 134-63 and Simpson 142-65.

Grinnell will compete at Coe College in Cedar Rapids Saturday.
