Box Score COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Grinnell College men's basketball team fell to George Fox University 124-114 in the season opener for both teams at the Colorado College Tip-Off Invitational Saturday afternoon.
Jack Taylor '15 poured in a game-high 40 points for the Pioneers, shooting 6-of-14 from 3-point range.
Luke Yeager '15 added 22 points and
Braedon Bayer '18 had 20.
Nick Curta '17 grabbed 10 rebounds and
Kyle Parker '17 had three steals.
George Fox shot out to a 14-4 lead to open the game before Grinnell rallied, as
Gus King '18 and Parker hit consecutive 3-pointers to make it a four-point gap.
The Pioneers got as close as two a bit later when Taylor's trey made it 18-16.
But George Fox took off and built a 66-48 halftime lead. The cushion got as big as 21 points in the second half before the Pioneers slowly chipped away, coming as close as seven at 117-110 on Yeager's free throws with 1:12 remaining.
The Pioneers then got within six when Taylor's trey made it 120-114 with :18 left before George Fox held on for the win.
Grinnell will meet Blackburn College at noon local time Sunday in the consolation game.
