Box Score LAKE FOREST, Ill. – The Grinnell College men's basketball team rose to the occasion down the stretch to post a 100-95 victory at Lake Forest College Saturday afternoon.
Leading the Pioneers' balanced scoring attack was
Julian Marx '17, who drained 7-of-15 shots from 3-point land while tallying 23 points.
Jack Taylor '15 added 22 points and three steals, while
Patrick Maher '14 had 19 points and four assists.
Luke Yeager '15 contributed 12 points and four assists, while
Kyle Parker '17 had 10 points and seven rebounds.
Tague Zachary '15 blocked four shots.
Grinnell is now 9-4 in the Midwest Conference and 14-4 overall, while Lake Forest fell to 5-8 in the league and 6-12 in all games.
The hosts built a 12-point lead in the first half before settling for a 46-40 cushion heading into the locker room.
Grinnell raced back in the second half and built its cushion to five points twice midway through, going up 75-70 on Yeager's 3-pointer and 77-72 on a basket by Parker.
However, Lake Forest rallied and was up by a point with just over two minutes left. Marx responded with a 3-pointer to push the Pioneers ahead 89-87 with 1:56 left.
After Lake Forest tied it with two free throws, Marx again drained a 3-pointer to push the Pioneers up 92-89 with 1:45 remaining.
The Foresters got within a point after that when Marx again came up with a long ball for a 95-91 lead.
Taylor hit four free throws in the final 30 seconds and Parker another to secure the win.
Grinnell travels to Galesburg, Ill., on Wednesday to take on Knox College. Game time is 5:30 p.m.
