GRINNELL, Iowa – The Grinnell women's basketball team improved to 4-3 in Midwest Conference play Saturday afternoon with a 59-46 victory over Ripon College at Darby Gymnasium.
Alissa Hirsh '16 scored a game-high 18 points for the Pioneers, who moved to 6-6 overall. She also had four assists and three steals.
Kayla Morrissey '18 added 13 points and
Sophia Gatton '17 poured in 11.
Alex Neckopulos '17 grabbed nine rebounds.
Emma McDonald had 12 points to lead the Red Hawks, who fell to 1-7 in league play and 1-12 overall.
Grinnell benefitted from a fast start, scoring the game's first eight points and 14 of the first 16. Gatton began things with a 3-pointer,
Lydia Stariha '17 made a layup and Morrissey converted a traditional three-point play to make it 8-0 with 16:50 left.
After a basket by Ripon, Hirsh sank a basket and free throw as did Gatton to make it a 14-2 lead at the 14:41 mark.
The Pioneers led 32-18 at halftime and never let the Red Hawks get within single digits again.
Grinnell travels to Galesburg, Ill., on Tuesday to take on Knox College. Game time is 5:30 p.m.
