RIPON, Wis. – The Grinnell College men's basketball team picked up a big Midwest Conference win while posting its first victory at Ripon College since the 2008-09 season Saturday afternoon.
The win completed the first-ever Grinnell sweep at Ripon College.
Luke Yeager '15 went 10-of-13 from the floor and scored 31 points as the Pioneers won 117-108. The victory pushes Grinnell to 8-5 in the MWC and 10-8 overall. Ripon fell to 8-5 in the league and 11-7 in all games.
Julian Marx '17 added 22 points and four rebounds for Grinnell, while
Jack Taylor '15 scored 20.
Jacob Ekstrand '18 scored 14 points and
Kyle Parker '17 dished out five assists.
Ripon led by as many as 10 points in the first half when Grinnell scratched its way back, closing to within 52-48 by halftime.
It was back and forth early in the second half, and the Pioneers were up by just three when they went on a key eight-point run.
Matt Jasaitis '18 hit a 3-pointer, Taylor sank two free throws and Marx drained a trey to make it 95-84 with 5:20 left in the game.
Ripon got as close as four down the stretch before Marx made a free throw and Yeager three more to stretch the gap to 107-99 with :50 left. The Pioneers closed out the win from there.
Grinnell plays at Monmouth College on Wednesday. Game time is 7 p.m.
