RIPON, Wis. –
Alissa Hirsh '16 poured in 25 points as the Grinnell College women's basketball team won for the first time at Ripon College, posting a 53-49 decision Saturday afternoon in Midwest Conference play.
The win moved the Pioneers to 6-7 in the league and 8-10 in all games. Besides her big scoring output, Hirsh also had nine rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Kayla Morrissey '18 added 10 points, while
Alex Neckopulos '17 grabbed 12 rebounds.
Ripon fell to 2-11 in the MWC and 2-16 in all games.
Grinnell trailed by two early before scoring 10 unanswered points.
Kaitlyn Norton '17 began the run with a free throw and Hirsh added a layup to put the Pioneers ahead 14-13.
Hirsh then hit three consecutive free throws and
Leah Greenberg '17 a pair to stretch the lead to six. A Hirsh jumper with 6:11 left in the first half gave Grinnell a 21-13 lead.
Ripon rallied but the Pioneers held a 23-21 halftime lead. Grinnell went up by as many as 11 in the second half before Ripon came back, making it a three-point game with :44 left.
However,
Anne Boldt '16 sealed the win with a free throw with :11 remaining.
Grinnell heads to Monmouth College for a MWC contest Wednesday. Game time is 5 p.m.
