Gustavus Adolphus 9, Grinnell 0ST. PETER, Minn. – The Grinnell College men's tennis team had a strong outing Saturday, beginning with an 8-1 victory over Bethel University.

The Pioneers swept singles play with
Elliott Czarnecki '15 (5-7, 6-2, 10-6),
Cole Miller '17 (6-3, 6-2),
Emilio Gomez '15 (6-3, 6-3),
Aaron Lapkin '15 (6-1, 6-3),
Charlie Wilhelm '15 (6-1, 6-2) and
Rob Storrick '15 (6-1, 3-6, 10-4).

Doubles wins were by the teams of Czarnecki and
Tommy Pitcher '17 at No. 1 (8-3) and Miller and
C.J. Ray '16 at No. 3 (8-3).

Grinnell then took on nationally-ranked Gustavus Adolphus College and lost 9-0. Gustavus Adolphus is ranked 14th in the nation and fourth regionally, while the Pioneers entered the match 12th in the region.

Despite the final score, the Pioneers battled toe-to-toe in several matches, including Czarnecki at No. 1 singles. He took the nation's eighth-ranked and region's second-ranked player to three sets before losing 6-3, 3-6, 10-5.

At No. 1 doubles, Czarnecki and Pitcher lost a narrow 9-7 decision to the nation's sixth-ranked and region's second-rated team.

Grinnell, 7-5 on the season, hosts Grand View and Hastings this coming Saturday.
