FROSTPROOF, Fla. – Grinnell College's baseball team snapped a five-game losing streak Friday, rolling over Ripon College 8-3.
Sam Tinkham '16 worked seven innings on the mound and fanned 11 batters to improve to 2-0 on the season.
At the plate,
Ryan Penaflor '15 and
Walker Bell '15 each had three hits, while
Graham Fisher' 16,
Teague Towner '17 and
Steven Petritis '15 had two apiece. For the game, Grinnell pounded out 15 hits.
The Pioneers, 2-5 on the season, scored a run in the second inning on Towner's RBI single to left. Ripon tied things at 1-all in the top of the fourth, but Grinnell got another run in the bottom of the inning on an RBI single to left by
Michael Slattery '18.
Ripon tied the game at 2-all in the fifth before the Pioneers broke things open with four runs in the sixth. Petritis had a two-run single to left during the inning, while Penaflor and
Anthony Mack '16 each had RBI singles.
Grinnell went up 8-2 in the seventh on a two-run single by Petritis. Ripon closed out the scoring with a run in the eighth.
