The Pioneers won their 12th Midwest Conference title in a row, and stretched their winning streak against league opponents to 116 matches dating back to 2002, with a 5-0 championship-match victory against Lake Forest College Friday.

With the title, Grinnell receives the league's automatic berth in the NCAA Division III National Tournament. The Pioneers, ranked 17th in the Central Region, are now 28-10.

They opened against Lake Forest with a sweep in doubles play by the teams of
Elliott Czarnecki '15-
Tommy Pitcher '17 (8-3),
Tracy Johnson '16-
Emilio Gomez '15 (8-0) and
C.J. Ray '16-
Cole Miller '17 (8-2).

Aaron Lapkin '15 then won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4 singles and
Charlie Wilhelm '15 posted a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 6.

Earlier in the day, the Pioneers stopped Carroll University 5-1 in the semifinals.

Grinnell got doubles wins from Johnson and Gomez (8-2) and Ray and Miller (8-4).

In singles, Gomez won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3, Johnson posted a 6-1, 6-1 victory at the fifth spot and Ray won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 6.Â
