INDIANOLA, Iowa – Grinnell College's baseball team rallied from a four-run deficit to tie the contest, but Simpson College scored in the bottom of the ninth to secure a 5-4 victory in non-league play Tuesday night.
Ryan Penaflor '15 had three hits for Grinnell, while
Sam Galanek '18,
Anthony Mack '16,
Matt Hammond '17 and
Teague Towner '17 had two each. Towner and
Niko Takayesu '17 each had doubles for Grinnell.
Simpson scored three runs in the first inning and another in the fourth for a 4-0 lead.
Grinnell scored two runs in the sixth inning on Penaflor's two-run single to left.
Graham Fisher '16 added a sacrifice fly to spark a two-run ninth before the hosts won it in the bottom of the ninth.
Michael Annerino '15 was the pitcher of record for Grinnell.
Grinnell, 6-11 on the season, plays doubleheaders at Washington University in St. Louis on both Saturday and Sunday.
