APPLETON, Wis. – Trailing by three points at halftime, the Grinnell College men's basketball team lit things up in the second half en route to a 109-89 victory at Lawrence University Saturday afternoon.
The Pioneers, who entered the contest on a three-game losing streak, scorched the nets with 13-of-27 shooting from 3-point land in the second half to move to 2-4 in the Midwest Conference and 5-6 overall.
It marked Grinnell's first win in Appleton since the 2011-12 season.
Kyle Parker '17 returned from injury to lead the Pioneers with 23 points, including four treys.
Julian Marx '17 had 21 points with the aid of five 3-pointers.
Matt Jasaitis '18 and
Jacob Ekstrand '18 had 15 points each, with Ekstrand making five treys.
Ky-Sean Johnson '19 had 10 points.
Parker also dished out four assists, while Marx and Jasaitis had three steals each.
Nick Curta '17 had six rebounds.
Grinnell fought back from a nine-point deficit in the first half to trail by just three at the half.
Lawrence still led by four midway through the second half when Grinnell opened things up with a 16-2 run. Ekstrand began the run with a 3-pointer and Parker made a layup to put the Pioneers up to stay at 74-73.
Max followed with a 3-pointer, followed by a trey from Parker for an 80-73 lead. After a basket by Lawrence, Jasaitis hit a 3-pointer and Parker a jumper to make it an 85-75 edge with 8:45 left.
The hosts, 2-3 in the MWC and 5-5 overall, never got closer than eight the rest of the way.
