GRINNELL, Iowa – A rough shooting night by the Grinnell College women's basketball team sent Cornell College to a 59-42 victory Wednesday at Darby Gymnasium.
Grinnell hit 14-of-52 shots from the field for a 26.9 percent success rate.
Still, the Pioneers trailed just 10-6 after one period and 22-16 at halftime before pulling within 28-24 on a 3-pointer by
Haley Lopez '17.
However, the Rams answered with string of 19 unanswered points that spanned the remainder of the third period and into the fourth for a 47-24 edge.
Anne Boldt '16 stopped the run with two free throws with 7:50 left in the game, but Cornell held on for the win.
Alissa Hirsh '16 and Lopez each scored nine points for Grinnell, with Lopes draining 3-of-4 shots from 3-point land. Hirsh also had five assists and two steals, while
Kayla Morrissey '18 came up with seven rebounds and two steals.
Grinnell is now 6-4 in the Midwest Conference and 9-6 overall, while Cornell moved to 8-2 in the league and 11-4 in all games.
