GRINNELL, Iowa – The Grinnell College men's basketball team led at halftime before Monmouth College rallied for a 103-92 victory at Darby Gymnasium Wednesday.
Vinny Curta '19 had a game-high 22 points as well as three assists for the Pioneers, who fell to 8-11 overall and 5-9 in the Midwest Conference.
Julian Marx '17 added 20 points, while
Kyle Parker '17 and
Ky-Sean Johnson '19 scored 12 each.
Parker and Johnson also had three steals apiece,
Mike Porter '17 dished out three assists and
Jacob Ekstrand '18 grabbed five rebounds.
Grinnell fell behind by as many as 12 points in the first half before rallying for its first lead at 40-39 on a 3-pointer by Marx. The hosts went up 54-51 by halftime and built their lead as big as six points in the second half when a free throw by
Danny Thomas '18 made it 61-55 with 17:46 to go.
However, Monmouth went on a 29-7 run to pull away and improve to 12-6 overall and 9-5 in the MWC.
