DE PERE, Wis. – Grinnell College saw its historic baseball season end with a 6-2 loss to Beloit College in the championship game of the Midwest Conference Tournament Saturday afternoon.
Grinnell finishes at 30-8, the highest win total in program history. Beloit moves on to the NCAA Division III National Tournament at 27-12.
Beloit got out to the early lead with a run in the top of the first. The Pioneers evened things in the second when
Coby Klar's double plated Matt Godinksy, who had walked.
Beloit made it 2-1 in the top of the fourth, but the Pioneers countered in the bottom with an RBI double by
Niko Takayesu that scored
Matt Hammond, who had walked.
However, Beloit scored twice in both the fifth and seventh innings to secure the win.
Grinnell managed seven hits in the game, with Takayesu and Klar having two each.
Matt Hammond had a double among his totals.
Sam Lopez was the pitcher of decision for Grinnell.
