GRINNELL, Iowa – The Grinnell College football team had its biggest offensive output in some time Saturday afternoon in a 72-17 setback to Beloit College at Rosenbloom Field.
The Pioneers rolled up 513 total yards, including 302 through the air.
David Taylor '20 had 191 reception yards, which ranks ninth in program history. He had six catches, while
Erik Henderson '19 had eight.
Quarterback
Tony Bergida '18 completed 19-of-34 passes for 302 yards and two scores, while
Jacob Bernholtz '17 rushed for 186 yards on 23 carries. Bernholtz's yardage ranks just outside of the program's top 10 for a single game.
Beloit scored on its first possession before Grinnell got on the board with a 22-yard field goal by
Ibuki Ogasawara '17 at the 11:36 mark of the first period. Bernholtz ripped off a 60-yard run to help set up the score.
Beloit scored twice more in the period before Taylor caught a 59-yard TD pass from Bergida at the 1:39 mark. Ogasawara's kick made it 21-10 at the end of the first period.
Beloit built its lead to 38-10 by halftime. In the third period,
Carson Dunn '18 caught a 2-yard TD pass from Bergida with 8:36 left and Ogasawara had the point after. Bernholtz had runs of 29 and 21 yards on the series and Bergida passed 32 yards to Taylor.
However, Beloit built its lead to 58-17 by the end of the period and continued to go from there to improve to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in the Midwest Conference. Grinnell is 0-3 overall and 0-1 in the league.
