GRINNELL, Iowa – Grinnell College rolled to two easy victories in its 2017 men's tennis season openers Sunday at the Charles Benson Bear '39 Recreation Athletic Center and Field House.

The Pioneers shut out Central College 9-0 and then sailed past NCAA Division II Truman State University 8-1.

Benjamin Cobin '20 was a perfect 4-for-4 for Grinnell, winning 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4 singles against Central and 6-1, 6-3 at No. 6 in the Truman State match. He also teamed up with
Will Hamilton '17 to win 8-1 at No. 2 doubles against Central and by the same score at third doubles against Truman State.

Hamilton won all three of his matches on the day, also posting a 7-5, 6-1 decision at No. 5 singles against Truman State.

Other triple winners were
Cole Miller '17,
Sam Stickels and
Zach Lane '19. Miller won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 singles against Central and 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2 in his other match. Additionally, Miller and Stickels won 8-0 at No. 2 doubles against Truman State.

Stickels won 6-2, 6-2 against Central and 6-4, 6-0 against Truman State at Nos. 2 and 3 singles, respectively. Lane won 6-1, 6-0 and 6-2, 6-0 at Nos. 3 and 4 singles against Central and Truman State, and teamed with
Raghu Inturi '20 to win 8-2 at No. 3 doubles against Central.

Jose Coloma '20 won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 singles against Truman State and teamed with
Tommy Pitcher '17 to win 8-1 at the top doubles spot against Central.

Henry Johnson '20 (6-4, 6-0) and Inturi (6-0, 6-3).
