DAHINDA, Ill. – Anxious to get the Midwest Conference title back, the Grinnell College men's cross country team delivered Saturday.

With the aid of a solid pack attack, Grinnell ended a two-year title drought by winning it league-high 33rd MWC title. Coach
Will Freeman owns 30 of those titles as he steps aside via retirement after this season.

Grinnell tallied 65 points to knock off runner-up Monmouth College by 14 points.

MWC Newcomer of the Year
Andrew Nickeson '23 led Grinnell by placing fourth of 98 runners. He recorded a time of 27 minutes, 23.3 seconds over the 8-kilometer course at Oak Runs Golf Course. Nickeson was just 29 seconds behind the winner.

Nickeson was one of four Pioneers to earn All-MWC honors. Next in line for Grinnell was
Matthew Phipps '20, who placed sixth in 27:37.9.
Matt Lieberman '21 followed him in ninth place with a time of 27:55.2 and
John Osler '20 was after that in 11th with a clocking of 27:56.1. It marked the highest league finish by all three as they all earned All-MWC honors for the second time each.

Declan O'Reilly '21 rounded out the scorers, placing 35th in 29:29.2. Other top Pioneers were
George Kosinski '23, 36th in 29:30.6, and
Kody Harrison '22, 46th in 29:58.5.

The Pioneers travel to Waverly in two weeks for the NCAA Division III Regional Championships.
