CONWAY, Ark. – Grinnell College was able to put together some hits, but was unable to dent the scoreboard in a doubleheader loss at Hendrix College Sunday.
The Pioneers were only outhit 7-5 in the first game against the Warriors, a team receiving votes for the national rankings, in a 5-0 loss.
Kory Czajkowski '20 had two of those hits, while
Quinton McNitt '21,
Carson Gampell '20 and
Zeke Taylor '21 had one each.
The Pioneer pitchers did a stellar job, as four hurlers worked in the game. Starter
Jacob Morsch '21 was the pitcher of decision and went 4-2/3 innings while tossing five-hit ball.
Grinnell threatened in the third inning by loading the bases, but couldn't push a run across. Czajkowski opened the fifth inning with a double but was also stranded.
Hendrix led the second game just 4-0 through five innings before tallying four runs in the sixth for some insurance.
Riley Guieb '21 led Grinnell's five-hit attack with two, while
Matthew Inaba '22,
Chad Koehler '20 and Czajkowski had one each with Czajkowski's being a double.
Sam LaMotte '20 suffered the loss, giving up nine hits in five innings.
Hendrix moved to 17-4 with the win while Grinnell moved to 2-5. The Pioneers head to Tucson, Ariz., and will play Wesleyan University on Tuesday.
