GRINNELL, Iowa – The Grinnell College football team hung with Lawrence University most of the way Saturday before falling 28-0 in the season opener for both teams at Rosenbloom Field.
 
The Pioneers trailed just 7-0 at halftime and 14-0 after three quarters before the Vikings tacked on two scores in the final 15 minutes.
 
Daniel Carter '22 had a big day rushing the ball for Grinnell, going for 119 yards in 29 carries. 
Matt Siff '22 passed for another 91 yards with 11 completions in 22 tries. 
David Taylor '20 led the receivers' charge with 51 yards on five catches. 
Max Hill '20 added two catches for 24 yards, while Carter had three snags for 15 yards.
 
Marco Kamimura '21 led the defensive charge with 10 tackles and two pass breakups. 
Jelani McCray '21 added eight stops, as did 
Bryce Tanikawa '23 in his Pioneer debut. Tanikawa also had two breakups. 
Luke Howard '20 contributed seven tackles.
 
Grinnell drove deep into Lawrence territory twice late in the first half, getting the ball to the Vikings' 12-yard line before fumbling and turning the ball over later on downs at the 19. In the second half, an interception stopped a Pioneer drive at the 19.
 
Grinnell takes to the road next Saturday for a game at Lake Forest College. Kickoff is at 1 p.m.
