GRINNELL, Iowa - It was a tale of two halves for the Grinnell College women's basketball team in Wednesday's home game against Illinois College.

The Pioneers bolted out to a 25-19 lead by the end of the first period and were tied with the Lady Blues 40-all at halftime. But then Illinois College took control, outsourcing the hosts 17-8 in the third period and 24-19 in the fourth for an 81-67 win at Darby Gymnasium.

Grinnell (7-12, 4-8 Midwest Conference) featured a one-two scoring punch of Erin Lillis '24 and Nicole Ware '25, who had 21 and 20 points, respectively. Ware hit 5-of-7 treys to highlight her performance.

Payton Hall '25 was also in double figures with a career-high 12. Aidan Coalson '22 grabbed nine boards and blocked three shots, while Sara Booher '25 added a career-best eight boards. Lillis was the leader in assists with four and Sofia Ahooja '22 was tops in steals with two. Ahooja also had two assists to move to 15th all-time at Grinnell with 183.

The Pioneers were on fire at the start, opening up a nine-point lead with an eight-point run that included a 3-pointer by Ware, layup from Lillis and trey by Grace Marsh '25 to make it 21-12. The Pioneers again went up by nine a bit later on Booher's free throw.

After the teams were tied at half, Hall opened the third quarter with a basket for a 42-40 lead. Illinois College (6-9, 5-5 MWC) countered with a 3-pointer before Lillis gave the Pioneers their final lead with two free throws, making it 44-43.
