In the closest of battles, GC men's tennis team falls to Hobart

Results

ORLANDO, Fla. - Things couldn't have gotten much closer for Grinnell College's men's tennis team in its match with Hobart College Wednesday.

Five singles matches were extended to third-set tiebreakers, and no more than two games separated all three doubles matches as Hobart slipped away with a 5-4 win at the USTA Campus.

Grinnell, 5-7 on the season, got hard-fought singles wins from Bowen Mince '22 at No. 1 (3-6, 6-3, 10-1), Leo Esztergomi '24 at No. 2 (4-6, 6-2, 10-8) and Sam Rudenberg '25 (6-2, 7-5). Jonah Gilmore '24, Karch Knoll '25 and Henry Bridgers '24 all came up just shy in three-set battles.

Gilmore and Bridgers got Grinnell's lone doubles win, an 8-6 decision at the second slot.

The Pioneers close out their spring break trip Friday with matches against Trinity College of Connecticut and California Lutheran University.
