Grinnell crowns pair of MWC championship men's doubles teams

MIDDLETON, Wis. - After delivering stellar performances at the Midwest Conference Team and Singles Tournaments, the Grinnell College men's tennis squad came up with an encore performance Sunday.

 
Grinnell won two of three flight titles in the MWC Doubles Tournament to wrap up the event. Henry Bridgers '24 and Jonah Gilmore '24 teamed up to win in the second flight, while Karch Knoll '25 and Leo Esztergomi '25 claimed the crown at No. 3.
 
Gilmore, Knoll and Esztergomi were also singles champs on Saturday.
 
Grinnell's other entry, Bowen Mince '22 and Sam Rudenberg '25, were runners-up at No. 1 doubles.
 
Bridgers and Gilmore, as the top seed, received a first-round bye before winning 8-1 against a team from Cornell College followed by an 8-3 decision over the second seed from Lake Forest College.
 
Knoll and Esztergomi, also the top seed, received a bye, won 8-1 over a team from Lawrence University before beating the second-seeded squad from Lake Forest 8-3 in the title match.
 
Mince and Rudenberg, who were seeded second, rolled to an 8-1 win over a team from Illinois College in the first round before defeating a duo from Cornell 8-3. The top-seeded tandem from Lake Forest posted an 8-3 decision over the Grinnell team in the championship match.
