Pioneers return to winning ways by shutting down Lawrence

GRINNELL, Iowa - After suffering a pair of tough losses Saturday to Lawrence University, Grinnell College's baseball team rebounded on an impressive note.
 
Three Pioneer pitchers combined on a six-hitter and four players accounted for eight of the team's 10 hits in a 5-3 victory Sunday at Pioneer Park.
 
Grinnell (4-11, 2-4 Midwest Conference) rallied from a one-run deficit with a four-run outburst in the third inning.
 
Garrett Nasif '24 was sharp in earning the pitching win, scattering six hits over seven innings while fanning nine batters. Kenji Kajita '25 tossed a hitless inning and Simon Lane '23 added another to pick up the save.
 
Mac McCain '25, Sean Richardson '24, Luke Porter '23 and Ben Kelly '25 each had two hits for Grinnell.
 
In the Pioneers' big third inning, McCain plated one run with a bunt single, Porter delivered a two-run single and Nate L'Esperance '23 had an RBI single. Richardson added a run-scoring single in the fourth.
 
Lawrence (7-6, 2-1 MWC) put up two runs in the seventh to complete the scoring.
 
Grinnell entertains Cornell College in a twin bill Thursday at Pioneer Park. The first pitch is set for 1 p.m.
