GRINNELL, Iowa - Brian Goodell '24 dominated the field in the 3000-meter steeplechase and the 4x400-meter relay team also claimed top honors while coming up with two of many strong performances by Grinnell College's men at the Midwest Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships Saturday.
 
Goodell claimed his first-ever MWC title in the steeplechase with a time of 10 minutes, .26 seconds to beat the runner-up by more than 8 seconds.

The 4x400 team of Aiden Gilbert '23, Tommy Jacobs '22, Declan O'Reilly '22 and Zach Willis '22 claimed top honors in 3:23.69, winning the race by nearly 3 seconds over the runner-up. That time just missed Grinnell's all-time top 10. The title was O'Reilly's fourth MWC crown in his career, while Willis gained his third, Jacobs his second and Gilbert his first.
 
Those efforts helped the Pioneers to a fifth-place finish in the team standings at Strong Stadium with 88.5 points.
 
Grinnell got one runner-up performance Saturday, Willis in the 800. He ran 1:56.25 in the 800 and was followed closely by O'Reilly, who was third in 1:56.43. Micah Cantor '24 also placed, taking eighth in 1:58.23.
 
The 4x400 squad ran 3:23.69, just missing the program's all-time top 10. Xavier James '25 was third in the 400 hurdles and fourth in the 110 hurdles with times of 58.66 and 16.91, respectively. Ryan Boev '25 added a seventh-place finish in the 400 hurdles in 1:04.99.
 
Gilbert added a fifth-place finish in the 400 in 51.39 and Andrew Nickeson '23 was fifth in the 5000 with a time of 15:58.85. Ben Harvey '22 claimed seventh in the 5000 in 16:04.53.
 
Placing seventh was Carter Williams '25 in the 3000 steeplechase in 10:32.23 and the 4x100 relay team of Jacobs, Gilbert, Kyler Walcher '23 and Andrew Fuller '24 with a time of 44.03.
