Pioneer women put on a show for home crowd while winning Grinnell Invitational

GRINNELL, Iowa – Last season, the Pioneer women's track and field team placed second at its own Grinnell Invitational indoor meet.
 
This time around, the Pioneers claimed the top prize.
 
The Pioneers piled up 117 points Saturday at the Bear Center Field House to outdo 10 other opponents. Among the teams Grinnell finished in front of was Midwest Conference juggernaut Monmouth College, which finished second with 95 points.
 
Grinnell had some stellar individual performances that included four event victories. Leading the charge was Keely Miyamoto '26, who won the 5000-meter run by more than a minute with a clocking of 18 minutes, 28.60 seconds. That time ranks sixth in program history.
 
Other champs were the 4x200 relay team of Ava Taylor '25, Caitlin Ong '26, Maile Crowe '25 and Athena Frasca '23 with a time of 1:53.41, Crystal Kaczmarczyk in the mile in 5:47.40 and Emma Schaefer in the 3000 with a time of 11:07.20.
 
Runners-up for Grinnell were Hannah Roark '26 in the 5000 (19:42.11), Eleanor Elliott-Rude '25 in the long jump (15 feet, 5 inches) and the distance medley relay team of Grace Charron '26, Ginger Mullen '25, Kylie Klassen '25 and Allison Rabbani '25 (14:55.56).
 
Placing third were Diana Barba '26 in the 5000 (19:58.23), Frasca in the 400 (1:04.15), Morgan Karow '26 in the 3000 (11:29.46) and Melanie Oden '25 in the triple jump (31-10). Oden's effort ranks eighth in program history.
 
Sadie Staker '24 was fourth in the 60 hurdles in 10.68 and guided the 4x400 relay team to an identical placing with Sam Reid '23, Julia Sheehan-Klenk '23 and Kaczmarczyk. Their time was 4:31.92.
 
Reid was fifth in the 400 in 1:05.56 and Crowe and Sophia Ford had identical placings in the 200 in 28.31 and 5000 in 20:41.69, respectively.
 
Mira Vollmayr-Lee '26 was sixth in the triple jump (26-1) and Klassen placed seventh in the mile (6:28.36). Elliott-Rude took eighth in the 800 in 2:36.28 and Annie Filkins '24 uncorked the fourth-best weight throw toss in program history at 40-4 ¼. That placed eighth.
 
The Pioneers are at home in two weekends to host the annual Darren Young Classic.
