Strong showing in middle distance, distance events propels Pioneers at MWC Championships

APPLETON, Wis. - Big performances in the middle distance and distance events sparked Grinnell College's women's track and field team on the opening day of the Midwest Conference Championships Friday.

Hannah Roark '26 raced to a runner-up finish in the 1500-meter run in 4 minutes, 43.43 seconds. Teammate Tennyson Shultz '28 ran 4:49.66 in the event, good for seventh place. That time ranks eighth in GC history.

The Pioneers claimed four of the top eight spots in the 10,000, with Genevieve Madigan '28 running 38:42.42 for second place. Her time ranks ninth in program history. Also in the event, Emma Wharton-Hsieh '27 was fifth in 41:08.34, Talia Harrison '26 placed sixth in 41:18.23 and Katya Lackey '27 was eighth in 41:47.94.

Kylie Galowitz '26 placed seventh in the hammer with a toss of 41.58 meters and Eleanor Elliott-Rude '25 jumped 4.97 meters in the long jump, good for eighth place.

Jessica Goodman '26 advanced to the finals of the 100 and 400 hurdles with the fourth- and eighth-fastest prelim times, respectively. She ran 16.59 in the 100 hurdles, which ranks fifth in program history, and her clocking in the 400 hurdles was 1:13.18. Maile Crowe '25 made the finals of the 200 with her time of 26.33, seventh-best in the prelims.

Grinnell is fourth in the team standings with 29 points. Monmouth College leads the field with 67. The meet continues Saturday.
