GRINNELL, Iowa – Grinnell College's volleyball team bounced back from Friday's night's loss to Illinois College in stellar fashion Saturday, blanking Knox College in three sets at Darby Gymnasium.
Grinnell (10-12, 3-1 Midwest Conference) had its fourth-highest hitting efficiency of the season at .263, while holding a foe to the third-lowest opponent hitting efficiency at minus-.010.
The Pioneers, who won by scores of 25-20, 25-20 and 25-8, were led at the net by
Millie Leonard '27 with 12 kills and a .429 efficiency and
Jenna Keller '24 with 10 kills.
Hayley Taka '26 contributed nine kills and hit .471.
Emily Brewer '24 had 33 assists and
Sophie Weber '25 and
Malaina Miles '24 each had two aces, with Miles' total a career-best. Keller added two blocks, while Weber and Keller had 20 and 11 digs, respectively.
Grinnell used a four-point run early in the first set to go ahead 10-5 and never looked back. Knox (2-14, 1-4 MWC) led the second set 15-12 before the Pioneers gradually inched back, going ahead 18-17 on Keller's kill. After Knox tied things up, the Pioneers reeled off six of the net seven points for a 24-19 edge. Keller and Leonard each had two kills in that span.
Grinnell shot out to a 6-1 lead in the third set on its way to victory.
Emmy Nyquist '24 played two sets, moving up to ninth on Grinnell's all-time leader board in career matches played with 113.
The Pioneers play at Nebraska Wesleyan University on Monday. Match time is 6 p.m.
