Grinnell men's basketball team coasts to easy victory for 2nd day in a row

GRINNELL, Iowa - After blasting Barclay College Friday night, the Grinnell College men's basketball team duplicated that feat the following afternoon.

Grinnell (2-1) shot out to a 74-42 halftime lead on its way to a 150-91 victory over the Bears Saturday afternoon at Darby Gymnasium.

The Pioneers grabbed 69 rebounds in the game, the seventh-best figure in program history. Interestingly enough, the school record of 82 boards came in last season's win over Barclay.

Grinnell had four players score in double figures, led by the first-year trio of Kai Te Huki '27, Gabe Garcia '27 and Tanner Deal '27. Te Huki erupted for 37 points, hitting seven treys in the process, while Garcia scored 27 points and Deal chipped in 11. David Bluder '25 also hit double figures with 10.

Tolu Johnson '25 and Jordon Ryan '24 each grabbed 10 rebounds and Nick Lundy '27 nabbed six. Garcia dished out eight assists and Zach Rosen '26 added seven. Te Huki also had six steals.

Barclay (0-4) jumped out to a 4-0 lead, but the Pioneers responded to go in front. Leading 35-29, Sean Murphy '26 and Ryan Tarighi '27 each hit 3-pointers and John Vincent '26 scored from close range to push the lead to 14.

Grinnell continued to up its lead from there and cruised to victory.

The Pioneers travel to Waverly onTuesday to face Wartburg College of the American Rivers Conference. Tip-off is at 7 p.m.
