Grinnell women's track and field team gets good tuneup for league meet

GRINNELL, Iowa - Grinnell College's women's track and field team tuned up for next weekend's league meet with a solid showing at Wartburg College's Liz Wuertz Invitational on Saturday.


Sonia Edassery '24 ran the second-fastest 200-meter dash time in program history with a clocking of 26.95 seconds, and ran the ninth-best 400 time at Grinnell in 1:01.80. She placed third in the race. Athena Frasca '23 added a fifth-place finish in the 400 in 1:02.53.

Grinnell got third-place finishes from Mira Diamond-Berman '25 in the 3000 (11:15.21) and Sophia Ford '25 in the 5000 (20:34.09). Melanie Oden '25 was fifth in the long jump with a leap of 15-2 ¼.

Grinnell saw all three performers in the weight throw move up on the program's all-time chart. Kylie Galowitz '26 now ranks third (42-2 ¾), Annie Filkins '24 is fourth (41-5) and Maddy Strovers '26 is ninth.

The Pioneers were seventh in the team standings with 26 points. Wartburg won the title with 276.

Grinnell will compete in the Midwest Conference Championships next weekend.
