JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – With first-year
Keely Miyamoto '26 leading a strong charge in the 3000-meter run, Grinnell College wrapped up a big second day at the 2023 Midwest Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships Saturday.
Miyamoto cruised to victory in the 3000-meter run in 10 minutes, 18.91 seconds, the second-best time in program history and tops since 2007. Miyamoto defeated the runner-up by more than 4 seconds.
Emma Schaefer '23 added a seventh-place finish in the event in 10:58.34 and
Hannah Roark '26 was eighth in 11:07.83.
Grinnell was fourth in the team standings with 94 points, 16 behind third-place Cornell College. Ripon College won the title with 161.
The Pioneers got a runner-up finish by school-record holder
Eva Carchidi '24 in the 60 dash with a time of 8.07. Also placing second was
Sonia Edassery '24 in the 400 with a time of 1:00.66, sixth-best in program history.
Athena Frasca '23 was fifth in the event in 1:03.04.
Crystal Kaczmarczyk '25,
Allison Rabbani '25,
Eleanor Elliott-Rude '25 and
Morgan Karow '26 teamed up to place third in the distance medley relay in 13:26.00. Grabbing fourth place for the Pioneers were Kaczmarczyk in the 800 (2:28.17) and Carchidi in the 200 (26.93). Carchidi's time ranks second in program history.
Edassery,
Sadie Staker '24, Carchidi and Frasca were fifth in the 4x400 relay in 4:26.17, while seventh place went to Staker in the 60 hurdles (10.39) and Edassery in the 200 (27.29). Staker's time ranks fifth in program history.
Melanie Oden '25 was eighth in the triple jump with a leap of 31 feet, 5-3/4 inches, the same placing as Elliott-Rude in the 800. Her time was 2:33.59.
