Grinnell softball team wraps up trip to Rochester Dome with losses to highly-regarded foes

ROCHESTER, Minn. - Grinnell College's softball team wrapped up its weekend at the Rochester Dome Sunday with losses to a pair of tough opponents.

Grinnell opened the day with a 16-2 setback to the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, a team receiving votes for the national rankings, and then lost 12-1 to highly-touted Luther College.

Samantha Chu '24 collected three of Grinnell's seven hits against UW-Eau Claire and Emma DiGiacomo-Zahller '24 added two.

Chu had both of Grinnell's RBIs, knocking in a run with a single up the middle in the first inning and plating DiGiacomo-Zahller with a double to left in the third. The double was the 21st of Chu's career, moving her to ninth in program history.

In the Luther contest, Taylor Durak '24 had a double to lead Grinnell and DiGiacomo-Zahller and Jasmine Oda '25 had singles. The Pioneers got their run in the fourth inning when Kathryn Vermeulen '24 hit a sacrifice fly to left, scoring Durak.

Grinnell is off for two weeks before opening its spring break trip in Clermont, Fla.
