Strong charge in 5000-meter run paces Grinnell women's team at Norse Invitational

Results

DECORAH, Iowa - Keely Miyamoto '26 led an impressive Grinnell College charge in the women's 5000-meter run at Saturday's Luther Norse Invitational track and field meet.

Grinnell runners claimed the top five spots and six of the top eight in the event, sparked by Miyamoto's victory in 18 minutes, 14.80 seconds. That time ranks seventh in program history. Hannah Roark '26 was second in 18:54.06, Emma Schaefer '23 placed third in 18:57.20, Morgan Karow '26 took fourth in 18:58.04 and Mira Diamond-Berman '25 was fifth in 19:02.63. Also, Diana Barba '26 placed eighth in 19:35.47.

Sadie Staker '24 raced to a runner-up finish in the 400 hurdles in 1:08.99 and the 4x400 relay team of Sonia Edassery '24, Staker, Sam Reid '23 and Athena Frasca' 23 was third in 4:13.04.

Crystal Kaczmarczyk '25 was fourth in the 3000 steeplechase with a time of 12:27.15, the ninth-best time in program history. Eva Carchidi '24 was fourth in the 100 and 200 with clockings of 13.12 and 26.54, respectively. Edassery took fifth in the 200 (26.73) and seventh in the 100 (13.35).

In the long jump, Melanie Oden '25 was fifth with a leap of 15 feet, 4 inches and Eleanor Elliott-Rude '25 was sixth at 15-2.25.

Grinnell was fourth in the team standings with 76 points.

Grinnell also had some throwers compete at the Saint Mary's University Cardinal Invitational in Winona, Minn. Annie Filkins '24 and Aiyana Rockwell '24 had big performances in the discus, placing third and fourth with throws of 119-4 and 119-0. Filkins' throw ranks ninth in program history. Also, Sara Booher '25 was sixth in the shot put with a toss of 36-9.
